Audience Feedback

Audience feedback

I have gathered a variety of different audience feedback on my Newspaper in two ways. Firstly, as a group we decided to create a Newspaper group on face book where we published are finished products allowing people to see them . There was also a chance for people to comment on my paper allowing me to gather a variety of feedback of what they liked and what they think i should change. The second form of feedback that i gathered was by printing out my final product and allowing people to write on sticky slips and position them on places that they though worked well and places that they though needed improving. This helped me in the completion of my paper because it allowed me to see what people liked about my product. It also allowed me to see features that i could develop and change, making the paper more appealing.

Poster Design

I have put together a draft of what i want my advertising poster to look like. This draft has allowed me to see what the final product will look like. It has also given me an idea of where certain features will be positioned on the page. I have included a variety of features on the poster that are in my newspaper, for example i have included the same slogan that is on the paper, i have used the same colours on the poster that i have within newspaper, i have also included website details and the date. Having similar features in both products allows my target audience to relate the two products together.

Places where papers are advertised

I have looked at a variety of different places where my paper could be promoted and advertised.

Buses

Allot of todays advertising is seen on buses. I could advertise my paper on the side of a bus for a variety of different reasons. Firstly the age group i am targeting use allot of public transport such as buses to get around. This will be a good type of advertisement due to it getting seen on a daily basis. Secondly buses operate in bust places such as towns and cities. Being situated in busy places will allow a wider range of people to see and hear about my product which could eventually lead to them reading my newspaper.

Bill Boards

Bill boards are situated over the streets in cities and towns and therefore would be a good place to advertise my product. Due to many of my target audience going out on a daily basis around the towns this would be a good opportunity to advertise my product to them. However i would have to be precise on which billboards i advertise on due to many of them being out of the way of the main streets and meeting point of a younger person.

Bus Stops
Bus stops are a very good place to advertise my newspaper for a variety of different reasons. Like buses, bus stops are places that my target audience use on a daily basis due to my audience traveling around on public transport. This will be a good place to advertise due to my target audience coming into contact with it on a daily basis. This will allow them to see my product and what it has to offer.

Tube/Train Stations
Tube and train stations are also good places to advertise a product due to allot of people passing through them each day. Due to many people using trains and the tube to get to work each day stations will be a good place to advertise due to your product being seen allot. However the target audience that i am targeting dont use stations on a daily basis and therefore wouldn't be viable advertising due to not many of my age range seeing my product.

Plug Advert

This is the Plug advert that i have designed and created using photo shop. The plug is advertising a chance within the paper to win tickets for a six nations game. This relates to my paper due to it offering a chance to win tickets to a sporting event. This advert will appeal to my target audience due to it being about a popular sport which my target audience are attracted to. The plug includes website details allowing people to visit the website about more details and to have a look at other prices that are on offer. A page number is included, telling the audience which page to turn to for more information.

Three Chosen Stories

I have researched into 10 different stories from the local area surrounding sport. I have analysed these 10 stories to see which ones will appeal to my target audience. Out of these 10 stories i have chosen three that i will use within my paper. I will use two 'Softer' stories representing happier sporting events in the local community and one 'Hard' story which will touch the readers emotions. One of the 'soft' stories that i have chosen, is an article that i am going to write about up and coming local football star.
The second 'Soft' story that i am going to use is "Boxing ace Maguire aiming for ABA glory". The story is about a 22 year old boxer from Orpington, who is targeting glory in a national amateur competition. This story will appeal to my target audience because

10 stories for newspaper
I have collected a variety of different sporting stories in the local area which i could use for the content within my paper. As well as local sport i have also researched into celebrity sport players, due to me wanting to attract a wide audience for my paper. I have included a sob story about swimming pools closing down. The reason for this is that i dont just want my paper celebrating sporting success but to help keep open sporting venues.

Key concepts applied to my newspaper

Representation
My original idea was to create a paper based around local news and stories, but Ive decided to focus on sport. I have decided to do this due top there being a gap in the market for a sporting paper. The stories within the paper will be local and therefore represent sport in the local community and will therefore be relevant to the reader. The paper will be aimed at males and females of the age 16-24 so therefore will also represent there styles and tastes. The paper will also represent different sports such as rugby and boxing instead of usual sports like football which normally have main priority in sporting papers.

Institution
The paper that i will be creating will be compared to other local papers in the area such as the Bromley Times the New shopper and the Metro. The newspaper that i will create will follow some of the conventions used within these papers such as a plug, News and Brief, use of adverts and a five column layout including two different stories. The paper will include alot of adverts due to it being reliant on adverts for the main funding.

Values
My paper will have to follow certain values that are common in the newspaper industry and local papers in todays society. Firstly the layout and front page has to relate back to newspaper conventions. The front page should contain a masthead, which makes the paper recognisable and unique from others. Below the masthead there will be the date and website details. This will allow readers to visit the website for further details on stories. The date will allow the reader to see how up to date the paper is, it also allows them to see older issues if need be. I will also produce a bleed area around edge of the newspaper to prevent the ink from running off. The pictures that i will use will need to be of good quality to give a professional look and make the paper more enjoyable. I will also be careful with the material i use within my stories to prevent anyone being offended and try to prevent upset for the readers.

Audience
My newspaper will be aimed at older youth from 16-24 in the local area of Bromley. This age group that i am targeting is particularly involved with a variety of different sports in the local area. However the newspaper will be open to any student within this demographic due to it not having limiting factors, such as not only be targeted at certain sport or ages. Any person interested or involved in local sport would be interested in the paper.

Ideology
The newspaper will deal with real sporting events and activities within the local area of Bromley. Football is often the popular and most highlighted sport in todays world. The paper that i am going to create is trying to change peoples perception on other sports. Giving a good account of other sports will hopefully get more readers participating in them.

Narrative
When writing the stories it is important to make sure that they flow so that the reader feels like they are being taken on a journey instead of being thrown from story to story. I intend to do this by putting my stories in order of subject matter but also being linked to adverts and pictures at the same time. For my main story the narrative is about an upcoming footballer who makes it into Eriths first team. However this wont be the only story there will be multiple narrative within the paper. The sub story will feature another sports story about a young boxer who makes it to the final of a national competition. It will include a interview with the boxer.

Genre
The genre of my Newspaper can be considered as a local paper. It can be classified as this due to it containing certain conventions. The paper will be a sporting paper and will be free. The paper itself will feature a lot of adverts to gain fundraising for the paper. The stories within the paper will be local as well as covering some national sport stories. I will also contain the weather in there so that it allows further information instead of being full of sport stories. The paper itself will be of the sport theme, so it will be different from other local papers in the area.

Segmenting the Audience

The name of my newspaper is "Bromley Sport". The idea is to produce a free paper containing non biased articles based around local sport in Bromley. The age of the audience that i will be targeting will be between the ages between 16-20. The reason for this choice is that i can closely relate to this age group. The Gender that i will be targeting for my newspaper is both female and male, so that i dont favour one gender over the other and will also allow me to gain readership from both genders. The social and economic background of my readers will between the categories C1-E. The parents of my readers are likely to be educated at GCSE and A level standard but haven't reached university level. The readers themselves are likely to be applying for university places or starting a professional career. The educational background for my readers will be students and working class people between the ages of 16-20. The sporting stories used will be based around football, boxing and rugby. I have chosen to target my stories around these three sports because they will appeal to them the most. The status of my readers will be based around the working class and professional, this could indicate that the yearly income of the readers will range between high and low income. The paper itself will be free and therefore will depend mainly on advertisement.
My paper will be targeting a a younger audience. I will be looking at young peoples attitude, values and there lifestyles. The paper itself will be advertised by traditional sporting complexes such as 'Bromley My Time'. I will use adverts linked with this corporation due to it being a complex that my target audience will relate with.

Ideas For Brief

For my A2 work I have decided to create the first two pages of a newspaper. I have made this choice for a variety of different reason. Having created a magazine before I thought that I could use the skills I learnt from producing that piece to help me design and create the first two pages of a newspaper for my A2 work. I am also familiar with Photoshop and In design, two pieces of soft ware that I would use to create the two pages. Another reason choosing to produce the newspaper is that I don’t have much experience in filming and the software used to produce short films.

After looking into the newspaper market I have found out that there is a gap in the youth market and therefore the target audience I am going to target is the younger generation aged 15 – 21. I have chosen to target this audience due to there being a gap in the youth market for a newspaper.

I have looked at other newspapers such as the Bromley Times to see the conventions used within a paper, from my research I have found out about the layout and content used within a newspaper. Firstly the Bromley times included a Masthead area at the top of the page which contains the name of the paper, price and date, website details, a puff and a plug. Underneath the Masthead the Bromley times has included a Plug. A plug advertises gifts that the newspaper has to offer. Underneath the plug the lead story title is normally positioned here and is usually large and bold. Underneath the lead title there is a five-column layout which is a convention of newspapers. Within the five-column layout the columns contain the lead story and usually contains a jump line telling the reader that the story continues inside the paper. A picture for another story usually takes two of the columns up. Underneath the five-column layout there is usually adverts.
